Code of Conduct

Please follow the rules in order to keep the sessions smooth and fun!

Hi there and welcome to our club!

We expect all members of The University of Auckland Badminton Club (“UABC”) to adhere to the following code of conduct.

In doing so we hope to promote a safe, fun, friendly, and healthy environment for all, with badminton at the forefront of our club’s purpose.

If you have any questions contact us at badminton.au@gmail.com

When are sessions?

We have 4 sessions: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and  Saturday.  Explore the website for more information about times and pricing!

Want to play? Read here!

  • To play in a session you must Check-In. Only those that have Checked-In for the session are allowed to play during that session.

  • The Check-In forms will be released on the Facebook Group Page every Sunday at 12pm.

  • You must secure a spot through the check in form and must be a current member (in the current semester). If you did not secure a spot for the week, sorry, you would have to try again next week.

  • There is also a casual check in form for non-members who want to come just once, This will be posted at the same time as the member check in form, and will cost $7.5. This fee will need to be paid via bank transfer before you come to the session.

At a session? Follow these!

  • Check-In and get ready for the start.

  • Collect a shuttle from a committee member

  • When a committee member rings the bell, head in again and check the board to see what court you are on!

  • When the bell is run at the end of every 15-minute round, please leave the shuttle on the court. If the shuttle on the court of your next round is damaged, you can swap it out for a new shuttle.

  • There will be an ins and outs court (court 4 at UoA sports centre, court 7 at Auckland Badminton Association) where you stay in court until you lose a point. Feel free to jump in line while you are waiting to be put on the games courts.

  • If you have been put on a games court and you do not show up, we won’t put you on any more games courts until you come and let us know you are indeed still here (we will think you’ve gone!)

  • If you need to leave, please let a committee member know so that we can mark you as having left.

  • During a session please be courteous, kind, and safe when interacting with other members.

  • Do not walk on the courts, as you may be injured by another player(some of them have BIG smashes!)

FAQ

Why are people lining up beside some courts?

That’s because those are the ins-and-outs courts. The other courts are games courts!

  • An ins-and-outs court has 4 people playing doubles, but when you lose a point you must join the back of the line, and the person at the front steps in to take your place!

  • A games court is where 4 players will be on the court, and everyone will be playing doubles. Play until 21 points and then swap around the players if you’d like, or play another game with the same people!

Why isn’t there a number next to my name?

That’s because you weren’t assigned to a games court. You can take a rest, or join an ins-and-outs court!

I don’t know what level of badminton I play at…

No worries! Just put the level that you think would suit you best (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced). If you realize that your games are too easy/difficult, just let a committee member know and we will adjust your grade appropriately.

I don’t have any equipment

Don’t worry we provide the racquets on a first-come-first-serve basis as well as shuttles, all you have to bring is yourself, a water bottle, comfortable sports clothing and shoes, and maybe a sweat-towel.

How do the sessions work?

Every time we ring the bell players will come to the board and check if they have been allocated a court number, of which they will play a doubles game/s.

Can I use one of my membership sessions for my friend?

No.

What is the casual fee?
